SO, most of you generally know me as a crazy horse lady, while also knowing that I am a backburner crazy cat lady as well.
I’m just going to make a random public service announcement here to encourage people with cats to consider switching to a non-clay based litter. I personally favor Swheatscoop. It’s made of wheat (obviously), and it is slowly becoming more and more popular. I can now get it at Target, which is convenient. However, even when I didn’t live right across the street from Target (and a PetSmart), I would regularly drive at least 15 minutes out of my way to get this stuff. (As well as higher quality cat food…yes, it’s more expensive, but because it actually provides nutrition you spend about the same on it, because it’s more filling, so takes them longer to finish off a bag…)
Reasons I love Swheatscoop: 1) My cats aren’t ingesting clay, either from having it clump under their claws, or from the dust of it settling on their soon-to-be-cleaned fur. If they eat a little bit of wheat from the litter, that is understandably and logically less harmful.
2) It doesn’t seem to agitate my cats’ senses, I guess. Lincoln used to sneeze A LOT, probably from the perfumey clay litter. Lucy used to get dark grossness near her eyes and in her little nostrils…I had to buy herbal eye drops for her and like pick her nose for her and stuff (ew). After I changed to this two years ago all those problems immediately went away.
3) I hate the way perfumed litter smells. This smells like wheat when you pour it and when the cats cover their business, and then you can’t smell it. Yeah, you can smell the cat shit sometimes. That means it’s time to clean your litter.
The end.
